Title: Cleaning Technician

Job Description: We are currently looking to hire a qualified candidate to perform the following job duties:

  • Clean and inspect optics for IBS thin film deposition. This includes spin cleaning and hand cleaning.
  • Cleaning and inspection of optics after IBS thin film deposition.
  • Operation of high magnification microscopes.
  • Operation of Veeco IBS thin film deposition systems.
  • Operation of spectrophotometers.
  • General lab cleaning.
  • Occasional bead blasting.
  • Occasional cleaning and re-foiling of coating chambers.

Qualifications:

  • 0-5 years experience in this field or a transferable skillset.
  • Experience with Veeco Spector systems preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to read and understand work instructions.

Title: Applications Engineer/Scientist — Optical Coatings (IBS)

Location: Boulder, CO

Reports to: VP of Sales

Type: Full-time — competitive base + profit sharing; benefits

Role Summary:
Join a top-tier IBS optical-coating team known for technical excellence and a collaborative, rewarding culture. This technical applications and sales engineering role focuses on turning customer requirements into manufacturable specifications, preparing quotes, and guiding projects from specification through delivery. You will work directly with leading research, atomic-physics, and quantum-computing groups, applying expertise in use of optical cavities and thin-film deposition. The position blends hands-on engineering with customer interaction and offers the chance to help grow an exceptional IBS optics company.

Key responsibilities:

  • Act as primary technical point-of-contact for customers (PIs, system engineers, procurement) on custom optics requests.
  • Take customer performance requirements (finesse, LDT, spectral bands, etc.) and convert them into detailed, manufacturable coating specifications.
  • Produce complete technical quotes for optics/coatings.
  • Advise customers on coating design/substrate choices.
  • Liaise closely with production, process engineers, and metrology to ensure specs are achievable and to set test procedures and acceptance flows.
  • Review and approve incoming/outgoing technical documentation (spec sheets, coating maps, inspection reports).
  • Support occasional trade shows and customer visits (travel <10%).

Required qualifications:

  • PhD in physics, optics, engineering, or closely related field — strongly preferred; exceptional M.S. engineering candidates with relevant experience considered.
  • Hands-on experience using optical cavities for physics.
  • Direct, practical familiarity with vacuum systems and thin-film deposition.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for technical customer interactions internal coordination.

Preferred / nice-to-have:

  • Experience modeling coating stacks (optical thin-film design tools).
  • Familiarity with vacuum systems and thin film deposition.
  • Working knowledge of metrology: spectrophotometry, interferometry.
